This year marks the 60th year of Nepal-Canada diplomatic relations. To mark the occasion, the Embassy of Nepal in Ottawa and Canada-Nepal Friendship and Cultural Society (CANFACS) will organize the “International Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha/सगरमाथा) Day Celebration and Canada-Nepal Cultural & Tourism Promotion" in Vancouver, Canada.
Mount Everest (Sagarmatha), the highest peak on Earth, continues to capture the imagination and fascination of adventurers, explorers, and people worldwide - including our Canadian and friends of Nepal. Just as both Nepal and Canada take pride in the Himalayas and the Rockies, our two nations are intrinsically linked by a shared love for mountains and adventure. This year marks the 72nd anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Everest (Sagarmatha).
This event will bring together dignitaries from the Nepali and Canadian governments, mountaineers, adventurers, cultural enthusiasts including indigenous performers, tourism professionals, and the Nepali diaspora. It will feature a tribute to mountaineers, highlighting and recognizing the extraordinary courage and achievements of Mt. Everest summiteers. Additionally, the event will include discussions on Nepal's rich cultural heritage and tourism opportunities, cultural performances showcasing Nepal's vibrant traditions, and networking opportunities for businesses and individuals interested in tourism and cultural promotion.
The occasion will also celebrate six decades of Nepal-Canada friendship, offering a moment to reflect on our shared values and achievements while exploring opportunities for future collaboration and partnership.
